Little Brunswick Garneau Block Natural Wine

Little Brunswick is the culmination of Alex and Rob’s efforts to turn a small tax return, and several hundred buckets of grapes into a winery within the tiny five-foot cellar underneath Alex’s house. Their aim is to shake-up the Australian wine industry with community-minded winemaking and sustainable viticulture. They are both passionate about the history of winemaking and the land they live on. For them, this means working with growers firmly rooted in their vineyards to revitalize grape varieties that are less fashionable, showcasing the unique aspects of some of the world’s oldest, and most distinct soils. Alex and Rob reject interventionist techniques in favour for lower yields, more attentive winemaking, and using their surroundings and natural processes to enhance their wines. They believe that this creates a tension in the glass where the wines express their place and personality with purity. Their philosophy is to put people and place above all other aspects of winemaking and viticulture which means acknowledging the 65,000 year history of farming and stewardship in Australia by indigenous Australians. This 65,000 year history shaped Australia’s soil profiles and the wines made there today. Alex and Rob make wine on the lands of the Wurundjeri people with fruit sourced from across the lands of western and central Victoria. They acknowledge that sovereignty of these lands was never ceded, and they always were and always will be aboriginal land. They also wish to acknowledge that the distribution of their wines in Canada takes place on treaty 6 territory, and the stewardship of those lands by the confederacy of treaty six First Nations. As with all our producers, we will be donating part of the proceeds from sales to a non-profit close to our heart. For Little Brunswick we have chosen to donate to Indspire. Please check them out.

Little Brunswick LOCK, STOCK AND TEARDROPS' GEELONG CHARDONNAY Garneau Block natural wine

Lock, Stock and Teardrops' Geelong Chardonnay

100% Chardonnay
12.3% ABV

vinification method: The fruit is whole bunch pressed straight to barrel. This means that every barrel has different characteristics from different elements of the press cycle. The juice is then fermented in 100% seasoned French oak, allowing it to extract more toasted nut, struck flint, and cold smoke characters.
Once primary fermentation is complete we rack the wine from gross lees and top the barrels. We allow the wine to complete malolactic fermentation fully, as all our ferments are ambient, MLF can take until Spring brings us warmth.
Juice is then fermented in separate barrels using ambient yeast and bacteria until dry. All barrels except one are topped. One barrel remains untopped for slight ullage character as a component of the blend.

The wine is aged on full lees for eight months before preparation for bottling. No additions bar 30ppm Free SO2 at bottling, unfiltered, unfined.

We’ve named it ‘Lock, Stock, and Teardrops’ after the K.D Lang cover of Roger Miller’s famous country twang because we are deeply in love with this wine.

tasting notes:  Bright, nutty, and briny.  Vibrant citrus and green apple, meets lightly salted almonds.

Little Brunswick All Seagulls No Chips Garneau Block natural wine

All Seagulls No Chips

100% Greco

10.2% ABV

vinification method: Our Greco went through a very simple winemaking process. It was crushed and destemmed to open fermenters where it fermented dry before being pressed. Free run and pressings were separated before élevage in stainless steel on gross lees. The wines were racked several times prior to bottling and were ultimately blended together to add more mouthfeel and texture to the lighter free-run component. Full lees contact for eight months prior to bottling. Ambient yeast, 22ppm Free SO2 at bottling. Unfined, unfiltered.

‘All Seagulls, No Chips’ is named after an expression that Little Brunswick coined for people who will fight over things that don’t matter.

tasting notes: Fresh pineapple, unctuous custard apple, and creme caramel

Little Brunswick GRAMPIANS CABERNET SHIRAZ Garneau Block natural wine

Grampians Cabernet Shiraz

Shiraz
11.4 % ABV

vinification method: In 2022 our Grampians Syrah is a combination of three different harvest dates, combining to offer brighter and darker fruit characters as well as white pepper spice and cardamom pod. All three parcels of fruit were treated similarly, each with 20%-30% whole bunch with gentle punch-downs twice daily. Another key in our house style is extended skin contact. We allow the cap to sink on our Syrah and then allow the wine to stay in contact with the grapes for an additional 7-14 days. This integrates tannin, softening the wine while enhancing flavour.
Our Syrah is then aged in a combination of large format seasoned French oak and a very small amount of second-fill French barriques where it completes malolactic fermentation and rests until bottling 9 months later. Vegan, unfiltered, unfined. 25ppm Free SO2 at bottling.

tasting notes: Bright raspberries and violets, wet alpine herbs, brined olives and oyster shell.
